Name: Niels 
^"NEELS"
Meaning: a version of "Nikolaos" meaning "victory of the people"
Nicknames: Nisse (only used by his younger brother)
Age: Adult (roughly 5 years)
Gender: Male
Height: 34"
Weight: 100lbs
Build: Not the biggest around, but not small either. He is mostly muscle, with dense fur and a thick hide. Despite being smaller than a lot of males in the surrounding territories, Niels is big enough (and strong enough) to defend himself.

Personality: Fearless and self-sacrificing, he is sweet, but stern. Niels has a strong sense of justice and often takes it upon himself to be a sort of point of authority. He will punish those he sees fit without too much remorse if they deserve it, though he is not merciless or cruel. He has a bit of a temper, however, but he can usually manage to keep himself in check. One wolf who can bring this temper out, however, is his younger brother. Otherwise, he can usually stay under control. He does have a lot of internalized anger, though, that he keeps bottled up. One day it might just blow up.

He is incredibly stoic, generally, and distrusting of strangers. He forms no real attachments with others easily, though he has a soft spot for pups and young wolves, especially if they need help. He would go out of his way to help someone in need, and would gladly give his own life if it meant saving someone else's. He would rather die trying than to be proven a nuisance or inconvenience to someone who needed his help. It is the same deep-seeded trust issues stemming from his continual maltreatment within his family that gives him the drive and avidity to work as hard as he does.

Pre Group History: Born to two rather young wolves who were not exactly ready, or planning, for a litter, Niels was seen as a general mistake to his parents. He was treated as a burden and there wasn't a moment where he wasn't reminded of the sheer inconvenience he presented them. He worked hard to try and please his mother and father, doing everything he could to show them that he was useful and not just dead weight, but no matter what he did he seemed to fail them. 

With the birth of his brother a year or two later, their focus was finally taken off of himself and his failures, and instead they devoted all of their time to their new, planned son. His brother led a priveleged life and their parents doted on him, giving him everything they did not provide his older brother and showing him a love that Niels himself never knew. It was then that he began to show signs of resentment and hatred toward his parents and, in turn, his younger brother. He knows his parents would have starved him out themselves if they didn't need him to hunt when his brother was small.

His father, Lex, was a violent and angry wolf, twice Niels' size. The brute took to beating Niels and pushing him around ever since he was small, and Niels grew up terrified of him. When he was just a juvenile, his father and himself got into an argument on top of a cliff overlooking the den site. Lex attacked Niels, intent on showing him who was in charge. Later, Niels would say his father could have killed him that day. In self defense, Niels attempted to fight back and, in the scuffle, his father slipped over the edge and fell over a hundred feet to his death. His mother, Vivienne, found them. Believing her son had killed her mate in cold blood, she ordered her Guards to kill him. Terrified, Niels fled, pursued by his former packmates. He hasn't looked back since and has cut off all ties with his parents and his younger brother, even going as far to say that he has no family, if anyone asks.

As hinted at in an RP, Niels' past is not all that it seems.

Abused by his parents as a pup, Niels was surprised when they announced that Niels would be getting siblings. When Tristan was born, Niels feared for his safety, knowing how neglectful and abusive their parents truly were. When his baby brother was born, Niels vowed that he would protect him at all costs, even if he paid a price.

And he did.

Instead of allowing their parents to neglect and abuse Tristan, Niels turned all their anger and hatred toward himself when Tristan was growing up. He took the blame himself for everything to spare his sibling of any pain. Yet, for all this time, his little brother didn't know. Though Niels loves him very much, he kept his young sibling at arms length when they were growing up, in case anything happened.

After many moons of abuse, Niels found he couldn't take it anymore, and realized he could end up dead if he stayed... But he couldn't leave Tristan on his own with them.

Scared for Tristan, Niels managed to do something to guarantee his brother's future safety and happiness. He would forever become the source of his mother's wrath, successfully putting his little brother in the spotlight, and their father would be out of the picture completely, unable to seriously harm Tristan.

And he did this by killing Lex.

-He never mentions his family; if anyone asks, they're dead or he simply doesn't have any family
-He is generally pretty friendly
-Absolutely loathes his brother, though he knows it's not his fault their parents treated him poorly. He's too stubborn to admit it, however
-Has several scars from run ins with other loners and maltreatment from his parents (namely his father) however they are all generally well hidden under his dense coat
-Spends a lot of time in the northern areas, especially during the summertime, to escape the heat, and heads south if it gets too cold for his liking in the winter ^{*note: this makes him more likely to run into different packs at different times of the year}
